At the onset of ETCHED IN STONE, Jodie, a biochemist, is working in the Kalahari Desert to discover the reason for an inexplicable biochemical “dead zone.” When she discovers the cause for this anomaly is a stone with mystifying power, her scientific training (what’s possible and what isn’t) and her physical experience (what’s real) collide headlong. 

With the help of two other men, Jodie must navigate the shocking obstacles she encounters while following the dangerous path upon which the stone appears to be taking her. Ultimately unraveling the elusive reason and mission of the stone’s reappearance, Jodie is plunged dead center into a huge moral/ethical dilemma, the ultimate cost of which might not only be her own life, but the very existence of mankind itself. The explosive climax, where truth confronts lies, valor challenges fear, and animosity opposes kinship, is heart-pounding, an ending that leaves readers contemplating not only their own personal relationship with religion, but their own morality, as well. 

In the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, what if God  accepted both of the brothers’ offerings equally? What if Cain never killed Abel?  What if we could go back and correct the story as written? After 20 years as a construction superintendent building new structures in Miami, Lew now uses his skills to build new worlds in the speculative fiction arena. His love of language and ability to ask fascinating what if questions is evident in all of his writing. His published speculative fiction short story, Nowhere to Hide, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2022.
